Waterford City and County Council is delighted to announce the launch of Round 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme, a grant initiative designed to help local communities take meaningful action on climate change.
A total of €564,000 has been allocated to Waterford by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications to support eligible projects led by community groups, sports clubs, residents’ associations, and local organisations across County Waterford.
Best of all — 100% capital funding is available for approved projects.
🌍 What Kind of Projects Can Be Funded?
Projects could include:
-
Retrofitting community buildings for energy efficiency
-
Installing bicycle parking
-
Setting up a repair hub or community fridge
-
Initiatives to promote biodiversity
-
Local recycling or food waste reduction programmes
Communities can apply for funding of up to €20,000, €50,000, or €100,000, depending on the scale and ambition of their project.
The programme aims to empower communities — both rural and urban — to take local climate action and shape their own transition to a low-carbon, sustainable future.
🌱 What Type of Projects Are of Interest?
Projects should address one or more of the following themes:
-
Energy
-
Travel
-
Food and Waste
-
Shopping and Recycling
-
Local Climate and Environmental Action
Proposals can include multiple measures rather than a single activity, encouraging a holistic approach to sustainability.
