Floating Voices: Community-Led Eco-Education Project

Floating Voices is a community-led eco-education initiative founded by Edel Tobin (creator of Waterford Walls). The project brings together artists, scientists, and local communities to explore environmental challenges through creativity, dialogue, and hands-on learning.

Its core aim is to make climate action more accessible and locally relevant by empowering communities to shape solutions for their own waterways and environments.

Cross-Border Programme & Podcast

Floating Voices is currently delivering a Shared Island cross-border programme, connecting communities across the island of Ireland through eco-education workshops and collaborative creative projects.

As part of this work, the project has also launched a podcast to gather people’s ideas, experiences, and perspectives on environmental issues—and how communities believe these challenges should be addressed.

A Vision for the Future

The long-term vision is to develop a carbon-neutral Floating Voices barge. This unique, mobile space will travel along Ireland’s waterways, acting as a hub for environmental learning, creativity, and collaboration.

When not in transit, the barge will be moored in Waterford City, serving as a floating community information centre and exhibition space showcasing work created with communities.

Support the Project

Floating Voices is currently fundraising €300,000 to build the barge. Support is warmly welcomed from councillors, businesses, and community partners who would like to help bring this ambitious community climate project to life.
