Waterford City and County Council’s public consultation on speed limits in built-up and urban areas is now open. Speed limits on most roads are set by national default limits. However, the Council can introduce special speed limits where a different limit is considered more appropriate for a particular road or area.

This is Phase 2 of 4 of the Department of Transport speed limit review which includes implementation of built-up and urban area speed limits to introduce a 30 km/h speed limit, where appropriate. The Council has carried out extensive pre-consultation with An Garda Siochana and the Transport Infrastructure Ireland in relation to these proposals and must adopt these bye-laws by 31st October, 2026.
The public is invited to examine the draft maps and proposed limits and to make a submission where they believe a limit should be changed, added or reconsidered.
