This year, to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Friday 12th June, the HSE Adult Safeguarding Team are partnering with local pharmacies in counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and South Tipperary to host information and drop-in stands.
The message is that every older person has a right to live a life free of any form of abuse. If you are an older person, or if you are worried about an older person who may be experiencing abuse, mistreatment or not being cared for adequately, there is help and support available.
On Friday 12th June, you can call in to the South East HSE Safeguarding Team information and drop-in stand in the participating pharmacy in your county for advice, support, information and guidance.
There will also be a private consultation space available on the day for anyone who wants to confidentially talk to a member of the team about any worries that they may have and seek specific support.
South East HSE Safeguarding Team members will be available at information and drop in stands in the pharmacies listed below from 9am – 4pm on Friday 12th June 2026:
- Corless Pharmacy, Dublin Road, Carlow Town
- Boots Pharmacy, High Street, Kilkenny City
- Mulligans Pharmacy, Gladstone Street, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary
- Mulligans Pharmacy, Lisduggan Shopping Centre, Waterford
- Grants Pharmacy, Rafter Street, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford
Speaking ahead of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Rob O’ Connor (Principal Social Worker for the South East HSE Adult Safeguarding Team in the Carlow-Kilkenny/Tipperary South and Waterford/Wexford area) says:-
“The HSE Adult Safeguarding Team in the South East are delighted to partner with local pharmacies across Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and South Tipperary to promote World Elder Abuse Awareness day this year. If you are an older person or are worried about an older person experiencing abuse or neglect, it can be daunting to speak to a professional or go to a HSE building to seek support. This is why World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is so important as it allows our team to reach out to people in the community and come to them with information and support advice.” “You may have a good relationship with your local pharmacy and know them quite well and it may be an easier space where you feel more comfortable dropping in and seeking help or getting some information to take away. I’d encourage anyone that has a worry about an older person or would like to find out more, to call in to us on the day, speak to our team and receive information and advice or as always to contact the HSE South East Safeguarding Team Freephone number on (0818) 101 101”.
