Have Your Say on Ireland’s Next Water Action Plan

Community groups and individuals across Waterford are encouraged to take part in a national public consultation that will help shape Ireland’s next Water Action Plan.

The consultation is seeking views on the key water management issues affecting our rivers, lakes, streams, estuaries, coastline and groundwater. Feedback received will help determine the priorities and actions included in the fourth-cycle Water Action Plan.
You don’t need to write a lengthy submission to make a difference. Even a short response highlighting local issues, experiences or concerns can provide valuable insight and help protect and improve our water environment.
The Sustainable Water Network (SWAN), a coalition of 25 environmental organisations, is encouraging community groups to get involved and has produced a summary of recommendations that groups can use to help prepare their submissions.
Submissions can be made online, by email or by post. The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday, 19 June.
If your group has an interest in local rivers, beaches, biodiversity, water quality or environmental protection, this is an excellent opportunity to ensure your voice is heard.
Affordable Housing Scheme Kilmacthomas

Waterford City and County Council, in partnership with Kent Homes, has launched ten new affordable 4-bedroom semi-detached homes at Leargán, Kilmacthomas under the Affordable Purchase Scheme.
These A-rated, energy-efficient timber frame homes are available to first-time buyers and Fresh Start applicants. The scheme helps eligible buyers purchase a new home by providing Government support through an equity stake, reducing the upfront purchase price.
The minimum purchase price is €360,000, with the final price depending on each successful applicant’s income and mortgage capacity. Applicants must have mortgage approval in principle when applying.
If you, a family member or someone you know may be interested, full details, eligibility criteria and application information are available on the Waterford City and County Council website.
Construction Works Underway for Safe Routes to School and Newtown One-Way Systems

Waterford City and County Council has commenced construction works in the Newtown area of Waterford City as part of the St. John of God National School Safe Routes to School Scheme and the Newtown Area One-Way Systems (Phases 1 and 2).
The project will deliver permanent infrastructure to improve road safety, walking and cycling facilities around St. John of God National School, while formalising the trial one-way traffic systems that have been in place.
Works will take place on and around Passage Road, John’s Hill, Wilkin Street, St. Alphonsus Road, Newtown Lower and Water Street. Traffic management measures will be in operation throughout the project, and while every effort will be made to minimise disruption, residents and road users should expect some temporary delays.
Regular updates on traffic management arrangements will be available through the MapAlerter service.
These improvements form part of Waterford City and County Council’s ongoing commitment to creating safer, more accessible streets for local communities, schoolchildren and active travel users.
