Be the Voice of Your Community in Local Decision-Making
PPN Representatives perform a really important function on behalf of PPNs and are elected by PPN member groups to contribute to Waterford City & County Council Boards/Committees & other Non-LA Boards/Committees.
PPN reps ensure that the voice of the local community is represented.
One of the ways this is done is through the SPCs (Strategic Policy Committees) and Waterford PPN have vacancies on the following SPCs:
- Economic Development & Enterprise SPC
- Environment, Biodiversity and Climate Action
About Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs)
Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs) are advisory committees of Waterford City & County Council. They play an important role in shaping, developing and reviewing policies that affect communities across Waterford.
SPCs include elected councillors and representatives from community, voluntary, environmental, social inclusion and business sectors
As a PPN rep you will:
- Speak on behalf of the PPN member groups
- Bring community perspectives into policy discussions
- Highlight local issues and needs

This SPC focuses on:
Driving economic growth and sustainable development
Supporting local businesses and enterprise development
Shaping strategies for job creation and investment
Promoting tourism and innovation
Overseeing economic regeneration projects
Ensuring local economic policies align with national and regional strategies
Environment, Biodiversity & Climate Action SPC
1 x Community Representative Pillar
1 x Social Inclusion Representative Pillar
This SPC is responsible for:
Environmental sustainability & biodiversity protection
Climate change mitigation and resilience
Waste management, water quality & air pollution
Renewable energy and green initiatives
Supporting community-led environmental projects

Only Full Member Groups can nominate or vote

If more than one nomination is received for a seat, an election will take place

SPC reps are appointed for 5 years (with one additional 5-year term allowed)

SPCs meet at least 4 times per year, during the day

Meetings may be in-person, online, or hybrid
