Waterford PPN Takes Part in Regional Networking Event for PPN Representatives

On Saturday, 27th September, Waterford PPN joined seven other Public Participation Networks (PPNs) from across the South East and Munster – Carlow, Cork City, Cork County, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, and Wicklow – for the “Empowering and Networking for PPN Representatives” event at the Rivercourt Hotel, Kilkenny.

The gathering brought together around 50 PPN Representatives who currently serve on Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) and Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs). These committees play a vital role in shaping local policy and development, ensuring that the voices of community, voluntary, social inclusion, and environmental groups are heard in decision-making.

Building Connections and Sharing Knowledge

The event provided an opportunity for representatives to connect with one another, share their experiences, and explore practical tools to strengthen their roles. Representatives from Waterford PPN joined in open discussions on challenges and successes, learning from their peers across the region.

Key Insights from Guest Speakers

Guest speakers included representatives from Social Justice Ireland (SJI), the Irish Environmental Network (IEN), and the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG). Each highlighted the unique contribution PPNs make to local governance and the importance of having strong community voices at the table.

A particularly encouraging message came from Jake Ryan, Principal Officer for Community & Voluntary Supports and Programmes Unit (CVSP) at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht. His address reinforced the Department’s support for the work of PPNs and their representatives nationwide.

A Step Forward for Collaboration

The day was summed up by a simple but powerful message:
“Collaboration at its Best.”

For Waterford PPN representatives, the event was a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding, build relationships, and return with new insights to strengthen their contributions on LCDCs and SPCs here in Waterford.
